Kirsty McIntyre

Melbourne still life artist inspired by Australian flora and modernism.

I am a Melbourne based artist who paints mainly still life featuring Australian flowers. For me, a still life painting is a stage, full of dialogue and complex relationships between the figures. At the same time I am looking for balance and harmony between the shapes and colours to create something of beauty, joy, serenity, humor or drama; when a picture is “right” I can let it go and start another.

I was initially inspired to paint by the work of Criss Canning and Margaret Preston. I still draw ongoing inspiration from these artists as well as  Matisse, Cezanne and the Scottish colourists such as J D Fergusson and Francis Cadell

Initially self-taught, I have had private tuition by artist, Ron Reynolds and am a member of the Victorian Artists Society, where I was chosen by peers to exhibit in the prestigious Mavis Little Artist of the year Award exhibiton in late 2018.

In 2019 I was involved in the “Four+1” group exhibition, from 28/2/19-11/3/19 at the Victorian Artists Society in Albert st, East Melbourne, opened by Leslie Harding, and was the feature artist at the fundraising Roberts McCubbin show in March 2019.  In addition I was the guest artist for the Derinya Art and Craft Exhibition (DACE) show in Frankston South in July 2019

Recent awards include “Best in Show” at the 2018 Warranwood art show and the Judge’s Special Award at the 2017 Whitehorse art show. My large still life, “Remebrance of Time Past” was shortlisted for the Eastbourne art prize in March 2019. My work is held in private collections in Australia, the USA, and Europe.
