Sharon Mackey McEachern is a local artist, living in Albury NSW. She has been practicing art for over 25 years. Sharon works in a variety of mediums, including ceramics, printmaking and painting. For the last 25 years, Sharon has been inspiring the next generation of artists, cultivating and developing art students as a public high school art teacher. Her work here continues.
Sharon’s latest work is informed by traditional blue and white willow ware. Decorative Japanese crockery from the 1970s always evokes fond memories of days gone by. This, coupled with an admiration of Australian native flora and birdlife, are the inspiration behind her works.
Sharon’s exploration of ceramics, and a desire to learn new and creative techniques, took her to the historically rich city of Jingdezhen, China, which has been at the very heart of fine porcelain production by master craftsmen for well over a thousand years. Joining an artist residency in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Sharon had access to the great ceramic and porcelain masters who taught ancient and modern technical skills, many of which have been handed down over hundreds of generations.
