Collection: Maz Dixon

Artist Statement

Maz Dixon is an award-winning artist based at Bondi Beach. Maz’s paintings are a colourful but uncanny riff on vintage souvenir materials - postcards, tourist booklets, bric-a-brac - anything you can print a Big Pineapple on. There is a tension present in her paintings, a combination of nostalgia for summer holidays in Queensland in the 70s and 80s, seasoned with an awareness of the impact of tourist culture on the landscape and inhabitants of a place.

Maz won the Waverley Art Prize in 2017, is a two-time finalist in the Sulman Prize and has also featured as a finalist in the Mosman, Sunshine Coast, and Fisher’s Ghost art prizes. She has undertaken residencies with Waverley Council, Tweed Regional Gallery, La Macina di San Cresci in Chianti, and the American Academy in Rome.
