Artist Statement

Melinda Giblett is an Australian artist whose paintings navigate landscapes in an exploration of the ancient and unique qualities of land and Country. She revels in the transformative effects of working directly from life in her chosen places, and in the studio, seeking to preserve the significance of place through her practice.

Expressive paintings and drawings of the Australian bush, mountains and desert landscapes attest to the ecological and natural histories of the earth according to seasonal rhythms-her process locating intimate visual splendour in the unexpected. Melinda embraces chance and the dynamic potential of mark making via the engagement of traditional and contemporary methodologies. Her work pursues the revelatory possibilities of colour, testing the equilibrium between sparsity and abundance.
